I can't remember who said it, but I once heard a public figure say that there is nothing you're allowed to do in a Vegas casino that's any good for you. When I think about the state of our economy and the culture of American business, I believe the metaphor for all of it is the Las Vegas casino. There is very little you can do in this economy that is good for you. In fact, much of it appears to be driven by the lowest common denominator and what entrepenuers can use to make you addicted. Alcohol. Drugs. Fat. Sugar. Salt. It takes an intrepid consumer with an iron will to keep from being victimized by the addiction mongers of American society. I mention this because that mind-set is part of the attitude a juicer must have when it comes to taking care of his or her own health through nutrition. Ideally, a juicer would grow much of his or her own fruits and vegetables and buy the rest from local farmer's markets. This would cut the cost of juicing considerably while contributing to a juicer's overall health. That's why, when people ask me for recipes, I balk. A dyed-in-the-wool juicer would simply go out to the back yard, collect fresh vegetables and fruits and juice these according to his or her personal tastes. Got radishes? Got Green beans? Got Zucchini? Maybe some apples or some berries? Blend 'em up and drink 'em down!
But just for the sake of coming up with another recipe, I offer this:
MIXED FRUIT SMOOTHIE #1
INGREDIENTS:
1 - cup of blueberries
1 - cup of red seedless grapes
3 - red plums
1 - red delicious apple
1 - cup of yogurt. [I tend to use Dannon Light & Fit because it is flavored and because it contains no fat and has only 80 calories.]
1 inch of fresh ginger
Add all the fruit, one fruit at a time, plus the ginger, to the juicer. Prepare the plums by quartering them and then cut out the pit.
Now, add the yogurt [mine was peach flavored and had pieces of peach in it] to a blender. Then add the juiced fruits. Now pulse the mixture 15 to 30 times.
Pour and drink.
Serves 2, or a very thirsty 1.
Until next time, see you right here at:
